* Hawaii * : This gallery is of our 21 day trip to Hawaii. This ride report is of Hawaii, my 50th State on a BMW Motorcycle, The Islands of Maui, Kauai, Oahu & the Big Island were visited. The trip highlights were the lava flowing at our feet, an extreme down hill mountain bicycle ride, best hiking, sightseeing, snorkeling imaginable, and being able to rent and ride a R1150R BMW motorcycle on the island Oahu The photos were taken in chronological order with The Big Island 1-74, Maui 75-164, Kauai 165-221, & Oahu 222-288. It was a trip of a lifetime.

This Bandshell, located at Fond Du Lac's Lakeside Pak, was featured on the cover of a 1940's Saturday Evening Post.

The four-masted schooners Hesper and Luther Little were docked in the mud flats at Wiscasset Maine in 1932, where they were, 45 years latter when I took these photos. The remain were storm damaged, vandalized, rotted until they had deteriorated into a pile of ruble. In 1998 they were demolished. I took this picture in 1978.

Luther Little was built in 1917. Length of 210 feet. Tonnage of 1,234. By the mid-1920's the schooner was laid up. In June 1932 she was auctioned to Frank Winter, who had her towed to Wiscasset and laid up alongside the dock. She never moved again.

The two-masted brig "Carthaginian II", a replica of an 19th Century island "lugger" like the ones that brought the missionaries to The Islands. Old Lahiania Harbor, Maui.

Wisconsin's last Covered Bridge

Cedarburg, WI

Built in 1876, the Covered Bridge original span measured 120' long and 12' wide. Its construction was of a certain type of pine found near Baraboo, Wisconsin. All of the timber and planks were cut and squared in a mill near that city. The lumber was then hauled to the proposed site on Cedar Creek where all pieces were fitted and set in place. The type of construction is known as lattice truss with interlacing 3 x 10 inch planks all held together by 2 inch hardwood pins and floored with three inch planking. It is now very rare. In 1927, a center abutment was placed to carry the heavier traffic of automobiles and trucks. In 1940, the Ozaukee County Board voted to forever preserve this structure as an historic monument.

The temperature was below freezing, hence the cool blue jacket and a heated tank bag.

The Silver Creek Brewery

2,400-square-foot microbrewery and brewpub plus an outdoor seating area located in the lower level of the 155-year-old Landmark Supply Co. This is one of the coolest brew pubs I have ever been to.
You enter from behind the building. Inside you have the water turning a mill and a great view of the Cedar Creek dam/falls.

Crawford Hills County Park is located approximately 15 miles east of the City of Black River Falls on Highway 54. The park offers the ATV and Motorcycle enthusiast the opportunity to access over 100 miles of combination ATV/motorcycle trails.

The park offers 25 rustic campsites. Facilities include water, pit toilets, a shelter building and a loading ramp for ATV’s.

Campsites are available on a first come-first serve basis, and campers are advised to arrive early to ensure a campsite on the weekends. A self-registration box is located at the park entrance for payment of park fees. The park is open all year.

If you ever take a suspension bridge, and a dude named Mad Jack tells you to go like hell, listen to him. The bridge has a slingshot or hammock effect when 600 pounds of bike and rider gets to the center and the stretch is loaded, you want to be almost off and not dinking around in the center trying to do a slow race when the bridge does the spring back.

The Forest City Riders put this Dual Sport Ride with 237 riders attending the Ride. The ride was 30 miles with the option to do two laps for a total of 60 miles.

1,300 trip miles on TKC80 knobby tires. The trail is 120 miles from my house. The trail route start/finish is Illinois/Wisconsin state line and Lake Superior.

I rode the whole route in July and revisited two of my favorite sections Fall of 2008.

Same bike, different accessories. The bike is a 1988 R100GS like this one:
The White/Blue tank, seat and fairing are in perfect shape, and I am trying to keep it that way. The black tank is a dented up salvage R65 tank/tank. I also have solo and Corbin seat. I have a buddy who lent me some rims, so in minutes I go from street bike tires to dual sport bike rubber. The R65 tank/seat is not a perfect fit, but with some penny tech modifications (bungee cords) it is workable.

At the river below Potosi, Potosi Station is where lead was loaded onto riverboats at the end of a narrow spit of land extending out into the Potosi Canal of the Mississippi River.

Wisconsin's County Forest Program is rich in history and admirable in accomplishments. County Forests originated in the Badger State and are found in only two others - Michigan and Minnesota. County Forests were created to rescue lands left abandoned by cut-and-run logging and failed homesteads of the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Waiting for the ferry, & camping for free on the beach, near the (Blanc Sablon, Quebec) Labrador to St. Barbe, Newfoundland Ferry.

The ferry travels to St. Barbe,Newfoundland across the Strait of Belle Isle from the Labrador-Quebec boundary. During the late spring and early summer, icebergs and floes drift southward to melt in the warmer waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. These mountains of floating ice originate in the high Arctic and Greenland and offer spectacular photo opportunities (tiny white spot)as they drift past Newfoundland and Labrador.

Blanc Sablon (Quebec), the western terminus of the ferry, take Route 510 along the 80 km stretch of paved highway that connects the communities along the southeastern coast of Labrador. In 1847, New Dublin changed its name to Hamilton, in honor of William Hamilton, a son of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, an influential former member of the Territorial Legislature from Iowa County, stopped there in 1847 to visit with the residents telling them about his trip up the Green Bay Indian Trail, in 1825, eleven years before any settlement occurred, when he drove a herd of 700 cattle from Illinois to Fort Howard at Green Bay. Hamilton, Surveyor General for the State Illinois, relinquished his job to Abraham Lincoln, when he contracted with the U.S. Army to deliver the cattle to the garrison at the Fort. The trip, along the narrow foot path, took the full month of June, with the loss of only one animal.

A lot of places were tight. I just made it between these two trees, The BMW cylinders are offset by a few inches. I used that and leaning to get my old Beemer through places that were narrower than my bikes with. Leaf River event is designed for enduro bikes and my not be big bike friendly.

October 11th Snyder lake? Sounds like a great time for a Meat and Eat. (Meet and Greet)

Hey, It was a Great time. I rode Clark county gravel on Saturday afternoon. They have the best maintained roads anywhere as most are red granite, smooth, hard and dustless. Buddy and I arrived at Snyder Lake County Campground at 5PM and did not find any other ADVRiders or bikes there. Glad I brought the FM radio.

This Bridge began it's life for the Rail Road, and now it evolved into the Rail to Trail routes that is open to ATV and motorbikes.

It is a new to me 1988 R100gs. The bike has a White GS flyscreen/windshield that I am will someday put back on. The Front fender I plan on raising to the original high location.The GS looks like and old school R80 GS without the flyscreen. The 1988 is just like the Black Bumble Bee GS.

The GS has a bunch of the needed upgrades. The Airhead with the white paint is a little harder to blend into a photo than my silver 2002 Oilhead GS.

I have been on a few Dual Sport Adventure Ride with the Oilhead GS, but it is just to heavy to do what I want it to do.

That shot was taken about 30 miles north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Harrington Beach State Park. The photo was shot at a 45 degree angle down from above the water on the Quarry's ledge. Looking down on the water, the water was a mirror reflection of the blue sky and the clouds. The sun was going down in the western sky, which put the low sun on the tree.

St. Martins is a village on the Bay of Fundy in southern New Brunswick, Canada, 40 kilometres east of Saint John. As of 2001 the population was 374.

The village was founded by Loyalists in 1783, and was originally known as Quaco. Through the 19th century, St. Martins was an important shipbuilding centre.

St. Martins was incorporated in 1967. The village uses its scenery and two covered bridges to attract tourists.
