Pictured is the old Railroad bridge that goes from Carter to Wabeno and on through Leona. Wisconsin uses this trail for it's Rail to Trail program. On a true dual sport motorcycle, and even on BMWR1150GS, this ride would be very tame but also very peaceful.

When I hit the starter button, buddy is jumping to get on the motor bike.

If you ever take a suspension bridge, and a dude named Mad Jack tells you to go like hell, listen to him. The bridge has a slingshot or hammock effect when 600 pounds of bike and rider gets to the center and the stretch is loaded, you want to be almost off and not dinking around in the center trying to do a slow race when the bridge does the spring back.

Wisconsin's last Covered Bridge

Cedarburg, WI

Built in 1876, the Covered Bridge original span measured 120' long and 12' wide. Its construction was of a certain type of pine found near Baraboo, Wisconsin. All of the timber and planks were cut and squared in a mill near that city. The lumber was then hauled to the proposed site on Cedar Creek where all pieces were fitted and set in place. The type of construction is known as lattice truss with interlacing 3 x 10 inch planks all held together by 2 inch hardwood pins and floored with three inch planking. It is now very rare. In 1927, a center abutment was placed to carry the heavier traffic of automobiles and trucks. In 1940, the Ozaukee County Board voted to forever preserve this structure as an historic monument.

The dog is a 9 pound toy poodle mix named Buddy. Buddy has been a tank bag dog for 10 years.

The Church on the hill is Holy Hill. Holy Hill is about 20 minutes from West Bend. Holy Hill ranks as the 30th highest point in Wisconsin.

This Picture is taken a couple of miles west of the Hill where Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive crosses State Highway 167.

Worlds Largest 6 pack

If the Busch Malt Plant wasn't there, the view at the end of the main street into downtown Manitowoc would be Lake Michigan. A surreal oddity, the tower exuded the warm aroma of roasting barley and the roar of its machinery lent an industrial ambiance to downtown. A work of "hand painted pop", the giant bottle and two cans of Budweiser ("3 Buds short of a 6-pack" wrote Jeff Felshman in the Chicago Reader in 1992) depicted were so much a part of the landscape that the natives didn't see it. An oddity of the town, it appeared on postcards sold at drugstores and shops until recently when corporate shufflings and alcohol awareness made it perhaps too complex an image to stock at the Walgreens. Despite being covered with an updated vinyl photographic mural about a decade ago, it remains a Manitowoc icon obliterated in 2012 due to a City Ordinance according to an article in the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter published November 7, 2012.

Ashland Ore Dock

The harbor of Ashland, Wisconsin is dominated by the massive Wisconsin Central Railway (later Soo Line) ore dock, built in 1916 to load iron ore mined in the area into freighters. The last of what were once many such docks, the concrete structure is 80 feet high and 75 feet wide and in 1925 the dock was extended to 1,800 feet. It was last used to ship ore in 1965. In 2007 the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation named it one of the "10 most endangered historic buildings in Wisconsin". Due to its deteriorating condition, the dock was slated to be demolished in early 2009. However, a pair of peregrine falcons brought the demolition to a screeching halt, so to speak. John Marsh is know for numerous reinforced concrete arch bridges, also known as Marsh arches.

Because of their appearance, hundreds of Marsh 'Rainbow' bridges were constructed in the 1910 through 1930's . According to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, only 14 remain in the entire country.

When a Wisconsin Biker says they are going to Holy Hill, They not only mean they will be going up to the Historical Chuch, but that they will be riding the curvy Wisconsin Rustic Roads that network around the Church.

Like this Indian maiden who is casting off the old garments...who will ever look forward to the dawn of a day of greater prosperity and happiness," Shaler said in his dedication speech.

BACKGROUND: This statue, dedicated in 1931, is also known as "Waubun", a Native American word which means "dawn of day." The City of Waupun was originally called Waubun. The 'b' became a 'p' when the city's name was commissioned around 1840 and a spelling error was made. Dawn of Day was Shaler's first heroic bronze statue, sculpted using several different models to achieve the maiden's perfection.

The mud sticks between the tire & fender. After a wile it hardens and starts to smoke and smell like burnt rubber. This is why dirt bikes have high fenders.

Built in 1840 the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest Brick Lighthouse in America. There are two black and two white stripes on the Cape Hatteras lighthouse; each circles the tower 1.5 times; all are wider at the bottom than at the top.

Since 1974 I have work at Mercury Marine, and a couple of years ago we had a motor show in Fond Du Lac Wisconsin. These pics were taken with my 1972 Nikon, scanned on a Epson Pro 4940 scanner & touched up (mostly lightened) with Photoshop.

Leaf River, Illinois November, 2 2008 http://forestcityriders.com/ This event is designed for enduro bikes and may not be big bike friendly.

The Forest City Riders put this Dual Sport Ride with 237 riders attending the Ride. The ride was 30 miles with the option to do two laps for a total of 60 miles.

Wisconsin's County Forest Program is rich in history and admirable in accomplishments. County Forests originated in the Badger State and are found in only two others - Michigan and Minnesota. County Forests were created to rescue lands left abandoned by cut-and-run logging and failed homesteads of the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Hey, It was a Great time. I rode Clark county gravel on Saturday afternoon. They have the best maintained roads anywhere as most are red granite, smooth, hard and dustless.

That shot was taken about 30 miles north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Harrington Beach State Park. The photo was shot at a 45 degree angle down from above the water on the Quarry's ledge. Looking down on the water, the water was a mirror reflection of the blue sky and the clouds. The sun was going down in the western sky, which put the low sun on the tree.

It is a new to me 1988 R100gs. The bike has a White GS flyscreen/windshield that I am will someday put back on. The Front fender I plan on raising to the original high location.The GS looks like and old school R80 GS without the flyscreen. The 1988 is just like the Black Bumble Bee GS.

The GS has a bunch of the needed upgrades. The Airhead with the white paint is a little harder to blend into a photo than my silver 2002 Oilhead GS.

I have been on a few Dual Sport Adventure Ride with the Oilhead GS, but it is just to heavy to do what I want it to do.

Crawford Hills County Park is located approximately 15 miles east of the City of Black River Falls on Highway 54. The park offers the ATV and Motorcycle enthusiast the opportunity to access over 100 miles of combination ATV/motorcycle trails.

The park offers 25 rustic campsites. Facilities include water, pit toilets, a shelter building and a loading ramp for ATV’s.

Campsites are available on a first come-first serve basis, and campers are advised to arrive early to ensure a campsite on the weekends. A self-registration box is located at the park entrance for payment of park fees. The park is open all year.
