klasjm > I showed my boss this picture, and he said "Whats up with that". He is not a Motorcyclist and did not know that you could wear a hole in the top of your boot from shifting.
klasjm > In this 1983 BMW ad, I am next to Fred Tausch & Miguel (may they rest in peace). I do not know the rest of the riders. John Lacko Beemer Garage has a pdf file here: http://www.beemergarage.com/documents/mar84.pdf The Photo was taken on my parents Homestead. The Site: http://www.beemergarage.com/index.html has many other interesting Vintage Documents.
klasjm > Me, on my 7 year old BMW Airhead in a 1983 BWM ad. The background is of the 1880-1980 Klas homestead. The 1977 750/7 had 536,000 miles when I retired the bike.

The four-masted schooners Hesper and Luther Little were docked in the mud flats at Wiscasset Maine in 1932, where they were, 45 years latter when I took these photos. The remain were storm damaged, vandalized, rotted until they had deteriorated into a pile of ruble. In 1998 they were demolished. I took this picture in 1978.

Luther Little was built in 1917. Length of 210 feet. Tonnage of 1,234. By the mid-1920's the schooner was laid up. In June 1932 she was auctioned to Frank Winter, who had her towed to Wiscasset and laid up alongside the dock. She never moved again.
klasjm > Hesper set sail in 1918. The schooner made several long voyages, including runs to Europe and South America. In June 1932 she was sold to Frank Winter for $600. She was towed to Wiscasset, arriving September 1932 to join Luther Little. http://www.hazegray.org/features/schooners/schn03.jpg

Mr. Winter had purchased the schooners, and the bankrupt WW&F Railroad, to operate a Boston-to-Wiscasset coal and lumber business. The schooners would bring coal north to Wiscasset and return south with lumber, with the railroad doing the land shuttle. This plan never worked, due to Mr. Winter's untimely death. Both the railroad and the schooners were abandoned where they lay.
klasjm > The two-masted brig "Carthaginian II", a replica of an 19th Century island "lugger" like the ones that brought the missionaries to The Islands. Old Lahiania Harbor, Maui.
Sunk off Lahiana Harbor on December 13, 2005, four months after I took this picture. More Pictures in our Hawaii Gallery http://klasjm.smugmug.com/gallery/1080734
