The four-masted schooners Hesper and Luther Little were docked in the mud flats at Wiscasset Maine in 1932, where they were, 45 years latter when I took these photos. The remain were storm damaged, vandalized, rotted until they had deteriorated into a pile of ruble. In 1998 they were demolished. I took this picture in 1978.

Luther Little was built in 1917. Length of 210 feet. Tonnage of 1,234. By the mid-1920's the schooner was laid up. In June 1932 she was auctioned to Frank Winter, who had her towed to Wiscasset and laid up alongside the dock. She never moved again.

"No matter where you live in Wisconsin somewhere nearby is a woods or a prairie to walk in, a stream or a marsh to paddle in, a lake to fish in, a hill to climb, a trail to bike. The natural world seems always just outside the door and up the street."
